More than twelve years after his suicide in 1994, Kurt Cobain has earned the dubiously illustrious title of highest earning deceased celebrity, beating Elvis Presley for the title. Between Oct. 2005 and Oct. 2006, the late Nirvana frontman’s estate earned $50 million, in large part thanks to widow Courtney Love’s decision to sell a 25 percent stake in his song catalog, according to Forbes.com which has published the morbid list for the last six years. Cobain knocked four-year top-earner, Elvis (who earned $42 million), off the list. Also in the top ten: Peanuts scribe Charles Schulz, John Lennon, Albert Einstein, Andy Warhol, Dr. Seuss, Ray Charles, Marilyn Monroe, and Johnny Cash. Forbes predicts that next year could totally be Johnny Carson’s year.
