Watch Kings of Leon’s Scruffy Sing-Along Set for ‘Live on Letterman’

kings of leon, mechanical bull, live on letterman

Kings of Leon continue their tour of the late-night talk show circuit. A twofer for the Late Show With David Letterman follows a night after a September 25 performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The Southern gents supported their reliably sturdy sixth album, Mechanical Bull, by blazing through LP standout “Don’t Matter” for the Late Show television broadcast — and stuck around to play a 46-minute “Live on Letterman” set.

The family Followill opened the full-length gig with Mechanical Bull‘s frothy first single, “Supersoaker,” and then peppered fresher material with a few selections from their back catalogue. “Wasted Time” and “Four Kicks,” both from 2003 debut LP Youth & Young Manhood, cropped up alongside Only By the Night‘s “Crawl,” “Closer,” “Use Somebody,” and, of course, “Sex on Fire.”

“I don’t want to be a dick, but it’s been a while since we’ve played these songs, and I’m going to feel really awkward if no one sings along,” lead singer Caleb Followill told the crowd at the Ed Sullivan Theater at one point. “And it’s okay if the boys sing too — we’ve all been drunk and know the feeling.”
