Kings of Leon Debut Summery New Single ‘Supersoaker’

Kings of Leon 'Supersoaker' Lyrics Video Mechanical Bull

Kings of Leon are gearing up to release their sixth album, Mechanical Bull, and the title of the first single seems to make good on their promise of a “youthful” new direction. “Supersoaker” is, of course, just a space away from starting a Justin Timberlake-style flame war over trademark use (though this case would involve a squirt-gun company and not a foundation whose aim is to protect women from sexual assault), but it’s content is the stuff of birds and bees. “I don’t mind sentimental girls at times,” sings Caleb Followill, “I just lay it on the line.” Similarly his compatriots apply the stuff of up-the-gut indie-rock excellence to the track: Strokes-y jangle, Americana gruffness, pretty tones (bells? synths?), and a rollicking beat. Mechanical Bull arrives September 24 via RCA. Kings hit Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on July 22 before performing at the Rock for Oklahoma benefit on July 23.
