When SPIN sat down to select our annual Band of the Year winner, the answer was a no-brainer: Kings of Leon owned 2009.
The Southern quartet became bonafide super stars across the globe with their latest album, Only by the Night, and its anthemic single “Use Somebody.” For our cover shoot, we recruited British fashion photographer Frederike Helwig to capture frontman Caleb Followill celebrating his newfound crown: popping, spraying, and chugging champagne and feasting on some tasty-looking cake.
