Kelly Rowland and Wiz Khalifa Bond Over Joni Mitchell on ‘Gone’

Kelly Rowland Wiz Khalifa 'Gone' Joni Mitchell Sample

That whole Destiny’s Child reunion thing is start-and-stop at best, but girl-group O.G. Kelly Rowland is full steam ahead as the June 18 release date of her Talk a Good Game album approaches. She got the old gang back together for “You’ve Changed,” and dished on her Beyoncé drama with The-Dream in “Dirty Laundry.” Now she’s teamed up with exemplary citizen Wiz Khalifa for “Gone,” a track that owes a great debt to Joni Mitchell.

Borrowing the hook from 1970’s “Big Yellow Taxi,” Rowland sings about a relationship that’s just ended with upbeat aplomb: “I don’t mean to disrespect ya, but I think you coulda done me better.” For his part, Khalifa stonily laughs a whole lot and shares his own vague thoughts about ex-lovers doing him wrong. Harmony Samuels provides cheery R&B backing.
