Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ Video: From ‘Me, Jane’ to ‘Me, Tarzan’

Katy Perry 'Roar' Video Prism Jungle Eye of the Tiger

The video for Katy Perry’s “Roar” arrives just as the single is crowned the biggest song in the land, thanks to Billboard — good news, it would seem, for Dillon Francis, who took issue with her emoji-powered lyric clip. While the pop star went full-on Rocky for her MTV VMA performance, the fantastical new visuals take the animalistic imagery (“eye of the tiger,” duh) more literally.

As the video opens, “Filmed in Junglescope” by directors Grasy Hall and Mark Kudsi, we find Perry as one of two explorer types who’ve survived a plane crash intact. But her male companion quickly reveals himself to be a douche, and summarily gets devoured by a junglecat. Left to her own devices, our heroine discovers her spirit animal (one guess) and soon becomes a regular old Mowgli. Albiet one who tints her lips with pomegrante juice. She makes a few furry and feathered friends along the way, of course. Perry’s fourth album Prism is due out October 22 via Capitol.
