Watch the Julie Ruin Throw a Punk Fit on ‘Fallon’

Kathleen Hanna’s triumphant comeback is now in full swing. The ex-Bikini Kill leader has grown a one-off, late ’90s bedroom project into a full-fledged band (the Julie Ruin), released a brand new album (Run Fast), worked with James Murphy (on minimalist love song “Just My Kind”), landed a SPIN cover story (August’s Love Among the Ruin), and she just played Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night (September 4). The Julie Ruin dropped by the NBC stage to perform “Oh Come On,” a snotty sock-hop tune that casts Hanna as a snarling Ronnie Spector. Flanked by her bandmates — Bikini Kill bassist Kathi Wilcox, guitarist Sara Landeau, drummer Carmine Covelli, and keyboardist Kenny Mellman — and bathed in flashing lights, the riot grrrl icon shimmied, squealed, and screamed all throughout the ill-tempered track. Watch it above, find tour dates below, and, come on, read SPIN’s cover story on Kathleen Hanna.
