Kanye West’s Six Most Hypocritical Statements From His Kris Jenner Interview

Kanye West’s hour-long interview with Kris Jenner — his first since that disastrous sit-down with Matt Lauer in 2010 — aired Friday (August 23). Yes, the appearance bestowed the first photograph of super-cute but unfortunately named North West. More importantly, it gave Yeezus the chance to show off a new facet of his personality — the side more palatable for “mainstream” America.

Forget the Kanye who attacks paparazzi and commands you not to talk; who inspires critical discussions about misogyny in rap; and whose “danger” caught the eye of Trent Reznor. That’s not the real Kanye. The Real Kanye gets embarrassed when he can’t work baby North’s car seat correctly. The Real Kanye wants to bring nothing but joy to the world. The Real Kanye has been cast in some kind of “bad wrestler” narrative by the media. The Real Kanye would do anything for his family, like, say, give a completely saccharine interview on daytime TV to help goose the ratings for the season finale of his pseudo-mother-in-law’s talk show. He’s a family man. Or is he?

West went so far to ingratiate himself on Kris, he said re: Swiftgate, “The last thing I would want to happen to my daughter is some crazy drunk black guy in a leather shirt to come up and cut her off at an awards show.”  But he also very recently told the New York Times that he more or less succumbed to peer pressure when he apologized for the “I’mma let you finish” madness.

Who is Real Kanye? Below, we present six of Kanye’s Kris sound bites with six contradictory Kanye lyrics and quotes from the very recent past.

Kanye on Kris: “The only thing I want to do in life is help people.”
Antithesis: “I’ve been a menace for the longest / But I ain’t finished / I’m devoted / And you know it.” — Yeezus, “Black Skinhead”

Kanye on Kris: “I’m definitely romantic, because I’m an artist.”
Antithesis: “Black girl sipping white wine / Put my fist in her like a civil rights sign.” — Yeezus, “I’m In It”

Kanye on Kris“I’m supposed to be this musical genius and everything, but I can’t really work the car seat that well.”
Antithesis: “I am a god.” — Yeezus, “I Am a God”

Kanye on Kris“Now I have two really special people to live for, a whole family to live for, a whole world to live for.”
Antithesis: “How much do I not give a fuck? / Let me show you right now ‘fore you give it up.” — Yeezus, “On Sight”

Kanye on Kris: “I just dreamed about being next to [Kim]. I keep saying it… I don’t want to start jumping up and down on the couch here.”
Antithesis: “Black Tims all on your couch again / Black dick all in your spouse again.”— Yeezus, “On Sight”

Kanye on Kris: “I thought it would be really cool on her grandmother’s season finale to bring a picture of North.”
Antithesis: “Well, I just don’t want to talk to America about my family. Like, this is my baby. This isn’t America’s baby.” — Kanye West, The New York Times
