When we first heard Kanye West was coming out with a shoe line this June, we wondered what took him so long? Doesn’t every celeb already have one? Then we were told his venture with high-end retailer Louis Vuitton is actually a B.F.D. (Big Fashion Deal)!
“We haven’t seen such a unique mix of luxury meets street couture since Nigo and Pharrell launched Bathing Ape,” says SPIN’s Executive Fashion Director Kelly Rae of the line founded by the Japanese street designer and the ubiquitous producer/rapper earlier this decade. “This collaboration is the perfect example of how music and style continue to cross pollinate.”
In other words, musicians like to wear cool shoes — especially if their name is on them.

The line, six different types ranging from loafers to trainers, was designed by Kanye in collaboration with Louis Vuitton Creative Director Marc Jacobs and Men’s Studio Director Paul Helbers. One model has a quilted flap in the back (where else will you tuck-in your jeans?) and was just unveiled at Paris Fashion Week.
“The inspiration came from a jacket with a huge collar in the movie Dune,” West says. “Most sneakers focus on the tongue, so I wanted to do something different.”
