Kanye West Claims New Album Is Almost Finished And Will Be Surprise Release

Early this morning, Kanye West dropped by Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club to discuss fashion, Kim Kardashian, Drake, and yes, Beck’s recent Grammy win. In the nearly hour-long interview, the rapper was remarkably candid in his answers, touching on the recent feud between his ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose, and members of the Kardashian family. “She’s just soaking in the moment,” he said of Rose. “If Kim had dated me when I wanted, there would be no Amber Rose.”

West also told the hosts that he’d planned to call Beck the morning after he ran onstage to protest the Morning Phase singer winning Album of the Year, but he has yet to find time in his schedule — which, between performing a massive outdoor concert in New York City, playing Saturday Night Live‘s recent 40th anniversary special, and debuting a new Sia-assisted song called “Wolves” at his New York Fashion Week showcase, doesn’t seem totally out of the question. (West also admitted that he hadn’t heard Morning Phase until recently; Taylor Swift played the LP for him and he thinks the record is “pretty good.”)

Ye also spoke of the drama surrounding Tyga’s supposed fling with the underage Kardashian sister, Kylie, an issue that Drake fired shots at on one of his recent If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late tracks. “I think he got in early, I think he was smart,” Kanye said of the Young Money affiliate. “They are closer in age than a lot of relationships that I know. I knew Tyga was smart.”

Most interestingly, Kanye confirmed that he’s about 80 percent finished with his upcoming album, and hinted that “Wolves” had been inspired by a still-possible collaborative album with Drake himself:

[The album has got] bars, songs, cookout music that just feels good. My last album was a protest to music, I was like ‘I’m gonna take my ball and go home’… This album is embracing the music, joy. Being of service to the people. I just hope people like it and enjoy it. [With “Wolves,”] the song came from a conversation me and Drake had where we were supposed to do an album together — it was supposed to be called Wolves… we said we was gonna do it, he was sending beats back and forth.
