Justin Timberlake Takes Back Maxwell’s in Hoboken for One Night

Justin Timberlake, Maxwell's, Hoboken, New Jersey, "Take Back the Night"

When Maxwell’s announced it would be closing its doors at the end of July, a co-owner of the Hoboken, New Jersey, venue said the decision was partly about the city’s shifting character. Well, Maxwell’s held what was supposed to be its last show on July 31; someone who played at the rock club on both its first and final nights, Richard Barone, looked back on what it all meant. Last night, perhaps in a sign of the changing times, Maxwell’s reopened its doors to 150 lucky Justin Timberlake fans so the 20/20 Experience singer could shoot a Target commercial.

Timberlake tweeted last night, “Join me & @Target tonight for just one song. Let’s ‘Take Back the Night.’ First 150 get in. See you there!” As the AP reports, hundreds crammed into the streets for the event, while police managed the throng with loudspeakers. According to NJ.com, Timberlake’s wife, actress Jessica Biel, was seen close to the pop star’s big trailer. The Maxwell’s Twitter account retweeted a fan video showing the Hoboken crowd’s excitement as Timberlake left the venue.

Timberlake recently performed at the MTV Video Music Awards, where he ranked among our 2013 VMA best and worst moments. His The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2 is due out September 30.
