Julian Casablancas and the Voidz might be the ultimate dad-rock band in their weird new video for “Where No Eagles Fly.” The visuals are meant to look like they’re ripped from decades old camcorder footage, as the Strokes singer and his bandmates loaf around New York City rooftops and apartments wearing cool-guy jackets and jewelry. The video also features some neat Windows 95 era graphics and effects, like flames licking away at the screen until the visual disappears. The whole thing ends mysteriously with a purple masque sinking into a pool of water, because what says rock’n’roll more than the shattered illusion of glamor? “Eagles” is the second taste of Casablancas and the Voidz’s record, Tyranny, which is out on September 23 on the singer’s own record label, Cult. It’s shaping up to be a strange affair if the video above is any indication.
