Josh Berwanger spent the late ’90s and early ’00s leading Kansas band the Anniversary, but now, years after the dissolution of that outfit, the singer-guitarist is plotting a solo comeback. On October 1, Good Land Records will unveil Strange Stains, Berwanger’s debut LP under his own name. Written alongside longtime friend and original Anniversary drummer Michael Hutcherson, Strange Stains features percussionist Jim Macpherson (of Guided By Voice and the Breeders) and collects 11 tracks of upbeat, ’70s-style singer-songwriter tunes that counter sad-sack lyrics with cheery handclaps and gentle harmonies.
