Jon Hopkins and Purity Ring have a mutually beneficial relationship. The London-based techno whiz mixed one track on the Canadian duo’s stunning Shrines (“Saltkin”) and recently remixed another (“Amenamy”). Now, Purity Ring’s Megan James has repaid the kindness by singing on a new version of “Breathe This Air,” a pulsating cut from Hopkins’ recent Immunity LP. This just-unveiled collaboration shaves 90 seconds off the original and fills the track’s dark abyss with clipped, glassy vocals. Stream it below.
Hopkins and Purity Ring will also be playing a pair of shows together later this month. During their two-night stand at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on August 27 and 28, they’ll give away 175 copies of a 12-inch pressed with “Breathe This Air” as well as Hopkins’ “Amenamy” remix.
