Hear Johnny Flynn’s T. S. Eliot-Inspired Folk Ballad ‘After Eliot’

Johnny Flynn

U.K. troubadour Johnny Flynn will embark on a quick tour of the U.S. in September, acting as special guest to Mumford & Sons for a handful of gigs. The pairing makes sense both in terms of aesthetics — Flynn specializes in wistful, dew-eyed folk tales — and timing, as Flynn’s third album, Country Mile, is set to arrive on September 30 via Transgressive Records. The upcoming full-length has already peeled off one tune (the soulful “The Lady Is Risen”), and now it’s shed another, the dusty “After Eliot.”

As the title suggests, “After Eliot” is loosely inspired by writer T. S. Eliot, recounting the story of an encounter that doesn’t take, a twangy missed connection. Stream the track below, followed by tour dates.
