Joan Jett to Lead Nirvana at Rock Hall Induction? Foo Fighters Hint So

Check out the best moments of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2014 ceremony with Nirvana, Kiss, and more.

Joan Jett loves rock'n'roll, we know, but does she love it so much she'll be performing with Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on April 10? The Foo Fighters' Instagram account has posted a photo that shows Dave Grohl's drums, Krist Novoselic's bass, Pat Smear's guitar, and — as Stereogum points out — Joan Jett's recognizably stickered Gibson Melody Maker axe.

The Rock Hall hasn't yet announced whether Nirvana's surviving members will be performing, but Krist Novoselic recently tweeted that he'd been practicing, and event organizers also kept mum a year ago about whether Grohl would be perform with 2013 inductees Rush (he did). Nirvana, of course, lead the Rock Hall's class of 2014. R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe will induct Kurt Cobain's former band at the ceremony, which takes place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center and will be shown on HBO on May 31.

Jett would be a good choice for the gig for a few reasons, but it can't hurt that she already knows Grohl. He co-wrote "Any Weather," off Jett and the Blackhearts' 2013 album Unvarnished. The two presented an award together at last November's American Music Awards, and she attended the premiere of his Sound City film in early 2013. Jett also joined the Foo Fighters onstage at New York's Madison Square Garden in November 2011.

Extra irony points: At the time, we noted that the Rock Band video game makers had once struggled to find a link between Jett and Grohl, resorting to Kevin Bacon-style degrees of separation. "Let's see: Jett's first band was teen-punk sensations the Runaways….who were discovered and produced by notorious LA impresario Kim Fowley…who later co-wrote the KISS classic 'Do You Love Me'…which was then covered by Nirvana," goes a 2009 post on the game's blog. "How's that?" Or how about just Jett fronting Nirvana at its Rock Hall induction, hmm?

If Jett's hinted performance takes place, that doesn't necessarily mean she'd be the only one playing with Nirvana tomorrow night. Recent SPIN cover star Grohl, No. 1 on our list of the 100 Greatest Drummers in Alternative Music, has also been found in recent months jamming with the Rolling Stones, Queens of the Stone Age, Zac Brown Band, and Jack Black. And who fronted a previous reunion of Nirvana's Grohl, Novoselic, and unofficial member Smear? None other than Paul McCartney.

Check out Nirvana and Jett's instruments below, and prepare for the event by catching up on SPIN's original Nirvana reviews and all of our original Nirvana cover stories.
