Adidas has enlisted wistful British singer/songwriter Jim Noir to soundtrack their perfectly cute World Cup spot. On “Eanie Meanie” off the big-in-the-UK release, Tower of Love (out in the U.S. in August), Noir sings about his childlike preoccupation with the sport of football: “If you don’t give my football back / I’m gonna get my dad on you / I only kicked it over the fence and broke a silly gnome or two.” Adidas has applied the track to its World Cup commercial that spotlights two young boys playing a genial-yet-competitive pickup game in an inner-city courtyard with an all-star lineup. England’s David Beckham, France’s Zinedine Zidane, Brazil’s Ricardo Kaka, and Germany’s Oliver Kahn and Michael Ballack sport their shin guards and jerseys in the clip, and with the winsome Noir song tracking the moment, young soccer fans can live out their dream of playing with their idols, even if only for a moment.
