Jessy Lanza Offers Her Digits on Sultry ‘5785021’

Jessy Lanza 5785021 Call Me Stream Pull My Hair Back

Jessy Lanza is a triple-threat: a singer blessed with an endlessly breathy coo, a pianist with a striking sense of melody, and a producer with a strong imagination for fitting sounds together in wonderful ways. On September 17, the Hamilton, Ontario-based artist will release her LP debut, Pull My Hair Back, via Hyperdub. And to make matters even more devastating, the set will be co-produced by her neighbor, Junior Boys‘ Jeremy Greenspan.

Below you’ll find first listen, “5785021,” although “Call Me” might be a more effective handle for conversational use. As is the Lanza way, the song combines dark disco with lush house and gushing R&B, with the entire thing sent skittering by clattering hi-hats and warbling synths. Considering how effective the end result is, let’s hope that’s not our heroine’s actual phone number. Or anyone else’s, for that matter.
