Jess Glynne Pays Homage to Mary J. Blige on ‘Real Love’ Cover

Jess Glynne, Real Love, Mary J Blige, Cover, BBC

Earlier this month, Clean Bandit released their second duet with British up-and-comer Jess Glynne, entitled “Real Love.” As part of a BBC Radio 1Xtra performance this week, Glynne tried her hand at covering a different “Real Love,” this one the 1992 R&B classic by Mary J. Blige.

The “Rather Be” singer stays true to the Queen’s original, with slightly smokier but extremely evocative vocals. Glynne’s rendition is packed with her own touches — those runs she does are immaculate — but it also does the requisite amount of bowing down to Blige’s classic song.

Glynne seems on her way to pulling a Sam Smith (that’s a thing, right?), hopping from EDM features to a robust and exciting career of her own. Her debut single as a solo performer, “Right Here,” is out now, and Blige’s new album The London Sessions will be released on November 24.
