Jay-Z Throws Down Gauntlet on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe’ Remix Clip

Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z

Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” is gaining more rappers on it, and by all indications the vibe is still intact. Jay-Z’s engineer and DJ Young Guru gave a sneak peek of Hov’s remix of the ruminative good kid, M.A.A.D. City track at South By Southwest yesterday — and luckily, someone captured it in the video clip below. Jay-Z’s verse comes in around the one-minute, 40-second mark and immediately comes across as more consequential than his cameo on Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie.” With a steely delivery, and an echoey effect on his vocals that suit the song’s stoner-ish mood, Jay alludes to Beyoncé, reflects on his success, and boasts, “Name one nigga out there harder than me / I’ll wait.” Lady Gaga’s “Vibe” version just got all the more ridiculous. Still have a soft spot for Rick Ross’ “drunk on the couch” freestyle, but there’s a reason Lamar is the obvious choice for the hottest MC in the game.
