Jay-Z Inspires Hip-Hop Musical

Confessions of a Thug merges filmmaking with music videos to tell the story of a budding hip-hop mogul.

Inspired by the music and life of Jay-Z, actor/director Daron Fordham has made Confessions of a Thug, a hip-hop musical exploring the collision between the street and corporate worlds. The film follows South Boy (also played by Fordham), a street hustler with a rap sheet and a college degree. "We wanted to create a new type of street character, one with psychological depth," Fordham told Spin.com. He also revealed he's had no contact with Jay-Z regarding the film, but would love to work with the hip-hop mogul. "If Jay comes knocking, you don't really close the door on him," Fordham said. Confessions of a Thug premieres at this year's Urbanworld/Vibe Film Festival in NYC, June 21-25.
