Stars, even stars as enormous as Jay-Z and Beyoncé, are just like us. They talk to their MacBooks when they’re lonely; they go on summer road trips with friends; and sometimes they get hacked.
According to TMZ, Jay and Bey were victims of a high-profile hacking that also targeted several other celebrities and a number of politicians. Detailed personal and financial information belonging to 12 American elites — including Mr. and Mrs. Carter — has been posted online by an unidentified hacker. Other celebrities compromised in the cyber attack were Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, and Ashton Kutcher; political figures targeted include Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Attorney General Eric Holder, FBI director Robert Mueller, and Los Angeles Police Department chief Charlie Beck.
Social security numbers, mortgage amounts, credit card information, banking data, car loan documents, and more were posted to the hacker’s website. As per the Hollywood Reporter, the site featured screen grabs of financial statements from online banking accounts. TMZ notes that the hacker was not able to get as much info on Vice President Biden or Hillary Clinton — or any pictures of America’s best kept secret, the elusive Blue Ivy Carter.
The LAPD has launched an investigation and the FBI is looking into the incident.
