Jay-Z and Beyonce Can’t Turn ‘Blue Ivy’ Into a Name Brand (Yet)

Add this to Jay-Z’s list of 99 problems: Jigga and wife Beyoncé’s attempt to trademark the name of their infant daughter, Blue Ivy, has been struck down according to Fox 25 News. They were attempting to assert their ownership of the unusual word pairing over that of a Boston events planning company.

But while Blue Ivy Events has been up and running since 2009, Blue Ivy Carter has only been an operable human since January. Rumor has it Bey was hoping to launch a Blue Ivy baby products line. In an act of admirable kindness, or supreme smugness, the Boston company’s website features a photo of the power couple superimposed with the words:

“CONGRATS to our SOUL MATE Couple with Baby Blue Ivy!!!”

In other news related to the nine-month-old scion, President Barack Obama recently told hosts at Cleveland’s Z 107.9 hip-hop station that he gave Jay a little fatherly advice, from one very much non-average Joe to the next: “I made sure that Jay-Z was helping Beyoncé out [with the baby] and not leaving it all with mom and the mother-in-law.”

He went on to praise Jay and Bey, according to the Huffington Post: “I’ve gotten to know these guys over the first several years. They’re good people. They’re down to earth. Beyoncé could not be sweeter to Michelle and the girls. So they’re good friends. They really are down-to-earth folks. We talk about the same things I talk about with all my friends.”
