Watch James Wallace and the Naked Light’s Extraordinarily Intimate ‘To the River’ Clip

James Wallace and the Naked Light’s recently released debut album, More Strange News From Another Star (out on Dialog Records), channels a long-forgotten intimacy, when listeners discovered young, fascinating folk storytellers at candlelit cafés, not on Vimeo pages. The Nashville outfit’s just-released video for “To the River” splits that difference: the Paul Greenhouse-directed clip captures a hushed, solo performance from Wallace, seen entirely through the pupil of an admirer. Reportedly shot in a single take, the clip’s extreme close-up briefly drifts from its subject, only to follow a single tear as it rolls down the fan’s cheek.
