Jack White Joins Nashville Mayor's Board

WRITTEN BY

Jack White: White Stripes and Raconteurs frontman, Dead Weather drummer, Third Man Records chief, sought-after rockabilly collaborator... political advisor!?!?

Yep, that's right: White, apparently the inventor of the 25-hour day, now has a new endeavor -- Advising Nashville's Mayor on how to keep the music in Music City.

White, a Detroit native who's lived in Nashville with his family for years, has joined the new 46-member Music Business Council, which strives to preserve and improve Nashville's music community.

The panel, which also includes famed locals like Emmylou Harris and Kix Brooks of Brooks and Dunn, will advise the mayor, Karl Dean, on a series of city initiatives: the construction of a downtown amphitheater, the expansion of the CMA Music Festival, the creation of a new, non-country festival, and the enhancement of music education, the AP reports.

Where White finds time for this is a mystery: The Dead Weather just announced a 25-date summer tour behind the July 14 release of their debut album, Horehound, and White's also in the process of recording a new White Stripes album with drummer/ex-wife Meg. (See photos of the first Dead Weather show here.)

If news of a upcoming Raconteurs album drops tomorrow, don't be surprised.
