Jack White and Foo Fighters Are Good, ‘Rolling Stone’ Uncertain

Jack White Dan Rather Kanye Rant Foo Fighters Rolling Stone Fenway

UPDATE: Foo Fighters’ people issued a press release about Jack White’s comments regarding the band after the former White Stripe teased the Foos, then joked that Rolling Stone would make a headline out of his comment. Read the statement below.

While Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters were celebrating their official day in the city of Richmond, Virginia and playing a special crowd-sourced concert, they were getting dissed by Jack White up in Boston. Thanks to a fan recording, White can be heard making fun of the band during his Fenway Park concert for seemingly no reason, citing their use of a third guitar player to cover up any mistakes the other guitarists might make.

He then took aim at Rolling Stone, making fun of them for posting articles like “15 outfits that will blow your mind that Taylor Swift wore this month” and “10 reasons why RollingStone.com didn’t cover the Newport Folk Festival for 50 years straight,” as well as the fact that founder Jann Wenner owns Us, “keeping paparazzi alive for more than 20 years.” To wrap things up, White acknowledged that he was beginning to sound like a certain rapper who often peppers his shows with long diatribes about whatever’s on his mind: “I’m officially supposed to stop now because this is becoming a Kanye West-esque rant for Rollingstone.com. Because apparently, nowadays, you aren’t allowed to speak to your own fans about anything, lest it be a rant. So forget ISIS, forget the war in the Middle East, forget any problems at home, forget gay marriage, forget everything you ever thought about everything. This not a rant. This is just me saying, hello Cleveland!”

It certainly sounds like this is the most fun White’s had at a ballpark all year, outside of his bro-down with Eddie Vedder and Paul Simon in Seattle. While it’s unclear why he’d be mad at the digital side of Rolling Stone, he’s probably still a little pissed about their cover story on him from last spring, in which he made some slightly controversial remarks about the Black Keys, Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Lana Del Rey. He posted a lengthy statement in response, saying, “We live in a sound bite, sensationalized age.”

You can hear audio of his diatribe above, while down below, watch White’s nearly hour-long interview with Dan Rather, in which they discuss his career, Third Man Records, God, fashion, vinyl records, and much more.

From Foo Fighters’ PR team:

Dear dream-makers of the media….

Last night Jack White made a joke on stage!

There was a minor equipment mishap, specifically with his guitar, and in an effort to keep his audience engaged, he made a joke! It was meant to be funny and self deprecating: “hey sorry, you’re stuck with just me up here…” vs the Foo Fighters who have three guitar players on stage and regularly play stadium shows.

Jack has the upmost respect for the Foo Fighters and communicated with Grohl this morning.

So if you’ll let us, we’ll all continue with our day and we assure you: All is well in the rock n roll world.
