Jack White and Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes are planning for a blue Valentine. On February 14, White’s Third Man Records will put out a 7-inch single featuring three songs performed by Haynes as the latest entry in Third Man’s Blue Series. Two of the cuts will be brand-new originals (“You Don’t Have to Be Smart” and “Horse Named George”), and the third will be a cover of “Paul’s Not Home” by New Jersey hardcore unit Adrenalin OD. (“Paul’s Not Home” originally appeared on the 1982 punk compilation New York Thrash, which featured the first recorded material by the Beastie Boys.)

The Blunderbuss king played guitar on all three tracks, while Third Man co-founder Ben Swank manned the drums. Limited edition copies of the single will be pressed on old medical x-rays and sold as “flex-rays” exclusively through the Third Man Rolling Record Store truck during South By Southwest next month. Previous entries in the Blue Series include releases by Tom Jones, Beck, and, yes, Insane Clown Posse. Scroll down for the 7-inch’s track list and a snippet of the thrashy “Paul’s Not Home.”
