iTunes Brings Podcasting to Mainstream

Apple’s updated version of iTunes, released today, incorporates podcasting, a new feature aimed directly at those who loathe corporate domination of the radio waves. Podcasts are homemade radio shows converted into MP3 files that can be downloaded directly into a digital media player. Inside the new iTunes menu, users can browse thousands of iTunes-sanctioned podcasts and “subscribe” to them, meaning that iTunes will automatically download new podcast episodes as they become available. Basically, Apple’s made it just as easy for users to access podcasts as it is for them to buy music from the iTunes store.
