Moody NYC rockers Interpol will support U2 on six stadium dates this summer, beginning June 27 in Minneapolis. The shows are the first announced gigs for Interpol since the summer of 2008.

The band’s fourth album is expected in 2010, and while details remain somewhat minimal, frontman Paul Banks said late last year that the new music would be “elegant” and “orchestral,” leaning on nifty arrangements by bassist Carlos D.

Interpol’s members haven’t exactly been lounging about since their touring for 2007’s Our Love to Admire wrapped in July 2008. Banks released his solo project, Julian Plenti Is…Skysraper, in the summer of ’09, and toured behind it, with a notable debut gig at NYC’s Guggenheim Museum.

Carlos D ventured into film, directing, scoring, and acting in a film called My Friends Told Me About You, and drummer Sam Fogarino released a second album with his other band, Magnetic Morning.

In addition to Interpol, Lenny Kravitz and the Fray were also announced as support acts for U2’s 360 Tour dates this summer. Check out the dates and opening acts below.
