Paid in Faygo: Insane Clown Posse in Debt Over Juggalo Gathering

Insane Clown Posse, Gathering of the Juggalos, financial, vendors, checks, money

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. It was the Gathering of the Juggalos 2013. SPIN saw enough “bests” out there in Cave-in-Rock, Illinois, to compile an NSFW list of the 40 Best Things We Saw at Gathering of the Juggalos 2013. And the Make-A-Wish Foundation helped an ailing 17-year-old get a lap dance. But tragedy also struck, as a man died of possible drug overdose amid a summer fraught with concert-related calamities.

Now that the dust has cleared from Hogrock Campgrounds, financial disputes over Insane Clown Posse’s annual bacchanal are also emerging. As the Southern Illinoisan reports (via the Hollywood Reporter), vendors from this year’s outdoor festival have groused that the event’s promoters, ICP’s Psychopathic Records, still owe them money. Psychopathic has said it will make good on its debts.

Vendors ranging from electricity provider Event-Tex to portable restroom purveyor Tidy Bowl contended they either haven’t been paid or have been paid in checks that bounced. The Hardin County, Illinois, sheriff’s office reportedly received a donation from Psychopathic. Sheriff Jerry Fricker, who declined to disclose the amount, reportedly said the check bounced. “I’m kind of old-fashioned,” he’s quoted as saying. “I waited until the check cleared before I ordered anything.”

Psychopathic, in a statement to the AP, noted that putting on a five-day festival with no corporate sponsorship is costly and time-sucking. “Unfortunately, in our attempt to provide the best possible event for our fans, expenses exceeded estimates and expectations, which we had not previously planned for,” the label says in the statement. “The company putting on the event, Juggalo Gathering Inc., has no intention of turning its back on these financial obligations and is in the process of preparing a plan to take care of all vendors. We thank all of our vendors for their understanding.”

It has been a gloomy couple of weeks for rap-metal fans. ICP’s Psychopathic label has also been sued by a former employee. The former label publicist and attorney’s sexual harrassment allegations include mentions of dildos, “vagina tighteners,” and threats of violence. If the case goes to trial, don’t expect ICP members Violent J or Shaggy 2 Dope to say, “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done.”
