Hear Hubie Davison Offer Up a Sentimental Beat on ‘No Shirt, No Shoes’

Hubie Davison

Yesterday, Leisure System unleashed the debut EP from London-via-Ireland transplant Hubie Davison, I Won’t Be There. So far, the Berlin label has unveiled three tracks from said EP — the stormy “Yeh Sai,” the bobbling, tribal-tinged “Haven,” and the melancholy title track — and now they’ve rolled out a stream of the sepia-toned “No Shirt, No Shoes.” The tune takes its name from its warped vocal sample, which carves tiny spaces into lopsided drum hits. The beat provides a perfect percussive infrastructure for Davison’s sonic embellishments, like a fluttering guitar loop, short-lived synth curlicues, and quiet rhythmic effects that sound like a spouts of breath from a robot’s lungs.
