Hot New Band: Single File
MP3
Colorado-based pop-rockers Single File once relied on food and water donations from fans just to survive on the road. But thanks to the April 7 release of their major-label debut on Reprise, one that finds a sweet spot between the bratty emo of Say Anything and the refined pop of Fountains of Wayne, those days appear destined to become distant memories, and fast.
Get a sneak peek of the trio's forthcoming record, Common Struggles, right here by streaming album track "Girlfriends" and its shout-along-worthy chorus ("So what if I'm a burnout, baby / You don't got to celebrate it"). Then tell us what you think in the comments section below.
If you like what you hear, catch Single File as the opening act on this spring's Pick Up the Phone benefit tour featuring Alkaline Trio and Anberlin.

I want to call them "post-emo" Like Marcy Playground came after Nirvana and used elements of grunge, but ironically. So Marcy Playground was "post-grunge".
Now there's Single File, singing a song about their girlfriends breaking up with them, but they're open about it. They use elements of rock, but their lyrics are obvious and ironic. "Emo" bands have made songs about break-ups, so have other artists, but they weren't obvious about it in their hook-line.
Am I making sense?
