The Hold Steady Celebrate 10th Birthday With New Album and Tour

The Hold Steady will set their sixth album loose this spring. The Brooklyn bar-rock heroes have confirmed to Billboard that they’ll release a full-length titled Teeth Dreams on March 25. The upcoming LP will be the band’s first release for Washington Square, a new imprint launched by the label Razor & Tie. Producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Evanescence) helmed the effort, which will serve as the follow-up to 2010’s underwhelming Heaven Is Whenever. The official track list for Teeth Dreams has not yet been revealed.

Of course, with a new album on the way, the Hold Steady have announced a string of tour dates. To start, the five-piece will hit the road on January 29, kicking off an eight-show trek around the U.S. that will include two special performances to commemorate the band’s 10th anniversary — that’s right, the Hold Steady’s first album, 2004’s Almost Killed Me, hits double-digits this year. The birthday gigs are happening on February 6 and 7, in Brooklyn and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, respectively.

And as if all that isn’t enough, the Hold Steady is also planning to drop a new crowd-funded covers EP via PledgeMusic. As Razor & Tie points out, the 12-inch vinyl is called RAGS and will feature five tracks, each one personally selected by one of the band’s members. Proceeds from the project will benefit the K + L Guardian Foundation, a fund set up in honor of Mike Van Jura, a devoted Hold Steady fan who passed away unexpectedly in 2012. RAGS will only be available to members of the Hold Steady’s fan club, the Unified Scene. Pledges for the campaign are still being accepted.
