The spirit of Canadian indie label Arts & Crafts was perhaps best exempified in its flagship band, Broken Social Scene, an ever-growing, ever-evolving, ever-jamming mass of friends. So it's only appropriate that the crew is celebrating its 10th anniverary with an album of collaborations titled X (due May 28) in advance of a one-day fest called Field Trip that'll feature the live return of BSS along with Stars, whose X contribution we're premiering right here. "Nothing Good Comes to Those Who Wait" is a deeply moody mid-tempo charmer spotlighting Amy Millan's beautiful vocals as well as another Arts & Crafts regular: electro-weirdo (and frequent Feist cohort) Chilly Gonzales. After Torquil Campbell takes a turn on the mic, whispering the song's haunted refrain like the Ghost of Christmas Past, Gonzales enters with a more pointed rap that closes out the track with some clever wordplay: "A life sentence of question marks" sounds like a grammatical and emotional nightmare.
