Iceage's New Brigade dropped last year like a brick through a bank window, and anyone jolted by that Danish band's chaotic art-punk squall now has a wealth of new new brigades to sort through. One worthy, slightly janglier successor is Swedish band Holograms, whose self-titled debut just came out on Captured Tracks (download the wonderfully ramshackle indie pop of "Chasing My Mind"). More aggressive but equally worth checking out are Lower, a brash Copenhagen quartet whose four-song Walk on Heads EP was recently released by Escho, a.k.a. the label that also gave us Iceage. From the jagged feedback of opener "Craver" to frenetic shouts of closer "Lethargy," it's a tightly coiled, volatile listen that keeps nothing in reserve. Stream the whole thing below.
