Has Big Boi Made an Unsexy Sex Song? Hear ‘She Said OK’

If there’s one complaint one could raise about Killer Mike’s thoroughly Essential R.A.P. Music — one that perhaps goes some way toward explaining why he holds all politicians in equal contempt — it’s the album’s narrow, strip-club depiction of women. Big Boi, who rapped alongside his fellow Atlanta growler on Killer Mike’s biggest solo hit to date, 2003’s “A.D.I.D.A.S.,” as well as on OutKast songs like “Snappin’ and Trappin'” and “The Whole World,” falls into a similar trap on “She Said OK,” though here the lack of empathy is more glaring. After all, what could be more ridiculous than an unsexy sex jam?

Big Boi recently revealed via Twitter that his follow-up to 2010’s still-great Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty will be titled Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, rather than the previously speculated Daddy Fat Saxxx: Soul Funk Crusader. It isn’t clear whether “She Said OK,” a slow-burning strip-club ode with Brooklyn rapper-singer Theophilus London, will make the record, but let’s hope not. “Girl, I want you to climb on top of me,” London croons — twice. Surely women would have to be paid (or OK, role-playing? Maybe?) to find these hilariously lame come-ons compelling.

The track begins with its sung chorus — “Let me see your titties” — and it rarely rises above virginal-frat-boys-on-spring-break level from there. Awkward pussycat metaphors! Multiple nipple mentions! “This is the only hairy bush that I would like to put my lips on” — referring to weed, of course. Serious question: How many rappers will it take to wear out the “how many licks does it take” trope? A bluesy guitar solo (remember those?) recalls the only-slightly-less-unsexy sex jam on Big K.R.I.T.’s otherwise fairly strong 4 Eva N a Day mixtape. Call us damn Yankees, but the South’s best rappers might benefit from spending a little bit more time with women they consider their equals — hey, it didn’t hurt Jay-Z any. Or if Big Boi is going to keep rapping about sex with strippers, it would be great to hear him go to Clipse-rapping-about-cocaine levels and make it sound like fun.
