Gwen Stefani and the ‘Voice’ Judges Sound ‘Hella Good,’ Actually

Though rumblings of a new Gwen Stefani solo project have kicked into overdrive of late, the No Doubt singer chose to dip into her band’s catalogue for a “Hella Good” performance with her Voice co-judges in advance of the reality competition’s premiere on Monday night.

Stefani’s voice sounds as good as it did 20 years ago, something not every entertainer can boast, and her stage presence remains prowling (we’re gonna stick with that) and engaging. It’s also cool to see Pharrell behind a drum kit again, and though his vocals don’t quite match Stefani’s in power, they make up for it by not being Adam Levine’s voice. Props to the country drawling Blake Shelton, whose pipes – against all odds – actually fit the Rock Steady song’s tone well.

The “Hella Good” performance is the second time Stefani and Shelton have teamed up this week after taking on Jimmy Fallon in a Tonight Show lip-synch battle on Wednesday. Stream the Voice performance above.
