Grimes Goes Bird-Watching for Misty ‘Venus in Fleurs’ Video

grimes, venus in fleurs

Grimes famously wrote earlier this year that her Tumblr is “not a news source,” which means that this news post probably won’t make Claire Boucher happy. This past weekend, Boucher shared an old but unreleased video for “Venus in Fleurs,” a mostly wordless meditation off her 2010 debut album, Geidi Primes. “We were supposed to release [this video] ages ago and somehow it didn’t happen,” Boucher wrote on Tumblr. “Probably because it didn’t comply with the press cycle at the time and since I’ve stopped caring about complying with press cycles [I’m] sharing this now.” (Read the full text of that post below.)

The above clip, directed by Video Marsh, was shot entirely at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in British Columbia, Canada, and, as expected, the camera focuses on several birds living there. “It’s a different vibe entirely as you can see,” Grimes posted. “I think it’s very very beautiful and haunting and peaceful and scary.” Marsh’s observational tone is definitely a far cry from the muscle-head dance parties and sci-fi eccentricities of the “Oblivion” and “Genesis” videos, respectively.

Hey — this is a video my friend Video Marsh made for this really old Grimes song from my first record.  We were supposed to release it ages ago and somehow it didn’t happen probably because it didn’t comply with the press cycle at the time and since I’ve stopped caring about complying with press cycles im sharing this now.

This is the only post-genesis official grimes video that i didn’t work on myself that will ever be released :).   it’s a different vibe entirely as you can see.  i think it’s very very beautiful and haunting and peaceful and scary

all footage is from the reifel bird sanctuary in British columbia
