Green Day Album Art Saves Lives

Green Day’s punk-rock opera isn’t just a critically acclaimed album, it’s also a useful learning tool, as one British family found out yesterday when one member correctly identified a live hand grenade in their garden from the image on her American Idiot t-shirt. Twelve-year-old Ruby Wilson was clearing leaves from her garden in Halifax when she found what she correctly identified as a dangerous explosive. “I saw what looked like a round metal object and realized it looked like a hand grenade,” she told Halifax Today. The American Idiot cover image is a hand holding a bleeding, heart-shaped hand grenade. After her father alerted police, a bomb-disposal unit took the explosive to a nearby playing field and performed a controlled explosion.

Talk: Can Green Day also help kids identify guns (see 1992’s Kerplunk)? COMMENT
