Lou Reed is being showered with well-deserved praise today. Just a few hours after he was announced as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee as a solo artist, the late Velvet Underground frontman was also announced as a member of this year’s Grammy Hall of Fame class for his 1972 classic, “Walk on the Wild Side.” Electronic pioneers Kraftwerk and disco-funk group Chic were also honored, for Autobahn and “Le Freak” respectively, following their snubs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier in the day.
Sly and the Family Stone’s Stand!, Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness,” Sex Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols, and, ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” also made the cut. The 27 new honorees bring the total number of titles in the Grammy Hall of Fame to 987. According to the official Grammys website, “The GRAMMY Hall Of Fame was established by The Recording Academy’s National Trustees in 1973 to honor recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old.”
The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. See the full list of inductees below.
