The name Grace Askew may sound familiar because of her striking performances on The Voice last year, which somehow did not get her a spot on the reality show’s finale, but did get her Rolling Stone‘s title of “Most Robbed Contestant.” Now, the Memphis singer-songwriter is getting ready to self-release Scaredy Cat, the follow-up to her debut full-length, 2010’s Until They Lay Me Down to Rest. Though the 11-track effort isn’t set to drop until August 12, Askew has shared a song from the upcoming collection, which was recorded in just one four-hour session at the legendary Sun Studios. Below you’ll find “Bad Habit,” a captivating single filled with witchy “woo-hoo!”s and goosebump-inducing slide guitar improvisations. Channeling heartbreak and anger, she comes out sounding astoundingly defiant, wise beyond her years.
Grace Askew tour dates:
August 7 – San Francisco, CA @ 50 Mason Social Club
August 9 – Los Angeles, CA @ Hotel Café
August 10 – Los Angeles, CA @ Silverlake Lounge
