Gnarls, RHCP Get Grammy Love

Buy the popcorn, make your bets, and prepare to sit your tush squarely in front of the TV on Feb. 11 for the 49th annual Grammy Awards. R&B diva Mary J. Blige is sitting sternly atop the heap with eight nods. Gnarls Barkley are nominated for two of the evening’s top four awards including Album of the Year for St. Elsewhere; they’ll do battle with artists like ’90s mainstays Red Hot Chili Peppers and their latest record, Stadium Arcadium. The nominees for Best Alternative Rock Album include the Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkley, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Thom Yorke for his solo album, The Eraser. Jack White and Brendan Benson’s Raconteurs raked in a nomination for Best Rock Performance from a Duo or Group with Vocal for “Steady As She Goes,” and sought after producer Rick Rubin rounded up five nominations as well.
