Sweetly strummed acoustic guitars, a lolling melody sung in a rueful, slightly weathered voice, lyrics of homespun wisdom — these aren't exactly groundbreaking elements upon which to build a song, but when they're used with as much heartfelt care as Wooden Wand's James Jackson Toth gives them on "Wither Away," they're pretty much irresistible. The track is taken from the band's 2011 album Briarwood, which Fire Records is re-releasing with a bonus disc of demos on April 17. Toth and Wooden Wand have been making music for more than a decade. If you're not familiar, now is as good a time as any to get acquainted. It's all this lovely.
