Here’s a compilation of the latest evidence supporting the theory that the music industry can be hazardous to your health.
The Vines: The band has nixed all of their upcoming shows due to their lead singer Craig Nicholls’ mental condition. Nicholls has been suffering from Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism [via NME.com]. In a statement on the band’s website, the Vines explained the cancellation of their upcoming Australian festival performances and Japanese tour by saying: “Craig Nicholls’ mental condition has deteriorated extremely rapidly over the past month to the point where he requires immediate help over an extended period of time.”
Courtney Love: There’s borderline-crazy blogging (read: Kanye West), and then there’s straight-up crazy blogging. Some are diagnosing the latter for Courtney Love in the wake of her internet overshare yesterday [via thelondonpaper.com]. Love posted 60 blog entries in a matter of hours, including photographs of designer dresses that she claims her ex-housekeeper, Miriam Torres, stole from her, accompanied by her own description: “Miriam’s a cow, into black magic and took all she could.” Love also included posts tagged ‘people are f**king evil,’ adding, “some people in my life right now haven’t been able to keep secrets or be honest or positive.”
Former Guns N’ Roses Drummer Steven Adler: Adler (who was kicked out of the band in 1990 due to his drug problems) was recently arrested in Los Angeles for heroin possession. He’s pleading “no contest” to the charges, is expected to enter rehab, and is hoping to rejoin Guns N’ Roses once he’s clean [via NME.com]. (Adler is currently starring in VH1’s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, which was filmed earlier this year.) The drummer’s lawyer, Barry Gerald, has stated, “When he gets sober they’ll (Guns N’ Roses) accept him into the band and then they’ll do a comeback album and a world tour — that’s the dream of Steven Adler.”
Travis Barker: In happier and healthier news, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker confirmed that he is on the mend and back to work in the wake of the plane crash he survived in September. During his first on-camera interview since the accident, Barker appeared on MTV for the final episode of TRL to share the good news, saying “I’m already playing my drums again, and I’m already back in the studio. It was like riding a bike.”
