Get Signed CDs from Spoon, M. Ward

Merge Records has announced they will be giving back this holiday season by once again auctioning off signed copies of their artists’ albums and donating all proceeds to charity. The auction began Tuesday (Nov. 27) on eBay with a clustered “Mega-Bundle” comprised of autographed copies of all Merge albums released in 2006. Included are John Hancock’s from M. Ward, Robert Pollard, and the members of Spoon, among others. The holiday auction stemmed from a desire to “raise money in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster,” a spokesperson for Merge told SPIN.com. “Some thought was given to simply making a donation to a charity or two, but we then thought that it would be cool to get the bands and our fans involved.”

Last year’s holiday auction raked in around $3,400, but this year Merge hopes to raise the bar. All proceeds will be split between OXFAM and TROSA, “a comprehensive, long-term, residential substance abuse recovery program located in Durham, NC,” the Merge spokesperson revealed. “TROSA’s mission is to assist in changing lives and increasing law-abiding behavior by providing a self-supporting, residential, self-help community serving offenders and substance abusers at no cost to the individuals.” Let the bidding begin!
