ESPN Analyst George Karl Is a Huge Gucci Mane Fan

List-making, as any honest music writer will tell you, is an inexact science, at best. ESPN analyst George Karl may have shown up in your social-media feeds today for a particularly creative musical ranking, in this case of the former NBA coach’s favorite rappers. No. 1 is Gucci Mane, which means the inmate working pro bono to free the Atlanta rapper has some competition for “biggest fan.” Next up is — well, “are,” but you’ll see — “Tupac/Notorious B.I.G.,” which fascinatingly lumps together two outspoken rivals as a single artist who is still somehow inferior to a guy with an ice cream face-tattoo. And then there’s Jay Z, although his hyphen was intact in Karl’s cable-TV segment yesterday. In a clip below, hear Karl refer to “the ice cream man himself” and how Gucci Mane “gets so little love.” For more lists, check out SPIN’s take on a college-basketball Sweet 16 music power ranking, the NBA rosters with the most rap name-checks, the 50 Best Rap Songs of 2013, and the 40 Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2013.
