In a recent Q&A with SPIN's Chris Martins, Garbage's Shirley Manson admitted recording the band's first album in seven years, Not Your Kind of People, was amazingly freeing. "I loved the experience of making it," she said. "It was the first time being in the studio that I didn't feel intimidated or stymied." Martins described the results like this: "Sleaze. Gloom. Glam. Noise. Songs about beloved freaks and lying lovers. Grungy, trip-hop-addled pop designed to stoke the last dance at the end of days."
