Just because Nathan Williams, the stoner-punk frontman of San Diego’s Wavves, is big enough to hang out at the VMAs doesn’t mean he’s no longer a fan boy. Williams honors one of his idols, ex-Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl, in Wavves’ just-released new song, “I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl.” Download it at at MTV!

The track debuted Sunday night on MTV’s new show I Just Want My Pants Back, which chronicles the debauched, confusing lives of post-collegiates living in the hipster-ground-zero Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods of Brooklyn. It’s a hyper-tuneful pop blast of fuzz-bomb bass, whistle-worthy guitar riffs, and Williams’ charmingly ragged vocals.

“I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl” is featured on Wavves’ Life Sux EP, set to drop on September 20 via Williams’ own Ghost Ramp label. MTV reports that Wavves will also release their new full-length album before the end of the year.
