Watch Franz Ferdinand’s Lynchian Burlesque ‘Love Illumination’ Video

Franz Ferdinand, "Love Illumination," video

Franz Ferdinand are missing no promo opportunities as the dapper Scots prep for their upcoming fourth album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action (due out August 27 via Domino Records). They played a couple of New York City shows this week, including a Live on Letterman webcast you can watch in full, and they’ve offered up a ’60s-tinged video for swinging near-title track “Right Action.” Another sleek, come-and-dance-with-me song from the album, “Love Illumination,” has also received a gorgeous live video. Now comes the proper “Love Illumination” clip, though “proper” may not be the right word: Directed by Tim Saccenti (Run the Jewels, Depeche Mode, Yeasayer), the visuals are amusingly kooky and off-kilter, culminating in a moment when a tasseled burlesque performer holds a Franz Ferdinand member’s disembodied head on a platter. Just because Franz Ferdinand know how to play the game doesn’t mean their rules have to make sense.
