Late Night With Jimmy Fallon has helped bring Odd Future into American homes. Tyler, the Creator and Hodgie Beats made their television debut on the show in February of 2011 and the former returned this past February to play two songs from his newest album, Wolf. So it made perfect sense that Earl Sweatshirt — whose debut album Doris is out August 20 — made his network television debut at 30 Rock on Friday, August 9, performing the recently leaked "Burgundy" along with the Roots. Keeping with the introverted, downcast themes of the track — along with previously released songs like "Hive" and "Chum" — Earl enters the stage with the performance already in progress and proceeds to rap cloaked in a black hoodie. For better or worse, this subdued performance had little in common with Tyler's couch-jumping antics.
Odd Future also announced the dates of its second annual OFWGKTA Carnival, which will take place at the L.A. Coliseum on Nov. 9. The mini-fest will be headlined by Tyler, the Creator and Frank Ocean, who must expect his partially torn vocal cord will heal up by then. The full lineup — one that will presumably include much of the rest of Odd Future — will be announced shortly.
